Intisar Jaber, a Palestinian American nurse in Chicago, receives a life-changing call: her estranged father, Hafez, is dying. Having not seen him for two decades since he joined the resistance and was imprisoned, she travels to her ancestral village of Bayt al-Hawa in Palestine. Upon arrival, she finds her father has already passed, and she is thrust into a struggle to save her family’s home and orchard from a predatory broker using forged documents. Alongside her grandmother Sundus, Intisar discovers her family’s deep roots and history of displacement, forcing her to decide whether to embrace this legacy and fight for her patrimony in a land that feels both foreign and like home.
