The story follows Majd, a Palestinian survivor of the 1982 Sabra and Shatila massacre, who builds a new life in New York City as a successful video game developer. He falls in love with Hilda, a Lebanese woman from a conservative Christian family whose relatives may have been involved in the massacre. The novel explores themes of forbidden love, war’s lasting impact, and the tension between personal passion and political history as Hilda returns to Lebanon. The book was shortlisted for the 2015 International Prize for Arabic Fiction
