Introduction to Story Writing Workshop:
This intensive story writing workshop will introduce aspiring writers to the main pillars of the story: Place, People, Plot, Purpose, Perspective & Finding Your Voice.
We will be looking at how to write space effectively, how to set-up a scene, how to build characters that are convincing and engaging, how to form a narrative arc, and what lies at the heart of every story from needs, wants, and conflicts.
Sessions will involve reading from world literature, discussion and analysis, various writing prompts, and feedback on writing generated within the sessions.
Sessions will be every Saturday from 12pm to 3pm at Diwan Bookstore, Heliopolis.

Feb 11: Develop a compelling plot
Feb 18: Grasp conflict & purpose
Feb 25: Determine perspective & voice
About Mai Serhan:
Mai Serhan is a writer and translator who is currently pursuing her graduate studies in Creative Writing at the University of Oxford.
Her poetry, short stories, memoir, and essays have been published widely in regional and international literary journals. She’s been short-listed for the Oxford-BNU Award in Creative Writing, the Quarterly West Poetry Chapbook Contest by the University of Utah, and The Lunch Ticket Poetry Contest by Antioch University in Los Angeles. Mai is also the winner of the Emerging Writer Award by Wellstone Center in the Redwoods, California, and the FH Pasby Award in Creative Writing from the University of Oxford.
