An intensive workshop that will take you through fiction’s backdoor to show you how a story is crafted inside out.
You will learn how to effectively write space, create unforgettable characters, set-up a compelling scene, develop a solid plot, determine perspective, and what goes into finding voice. Sessions will involve reading from world literature, discussions and analysis, writing prompts, and feedback on writing generated during the sessions.
About Mai Serhan:
Mai Serhan is a writer, editor and translator. She studied Arabic Literature at the American University in Cairo and Creative Writing at the University of Oxford.
Her short stories, memoir, poetry, and essays have been published widely, both regionally and internationally. Her short story, Tamima won her the Emerging Writer Award from Wellstone Center in the Redwoods, California; her short story, Blind Spot was shortlisted for the Oxford-BNU Award in Creative Writing; her upcoming memoir, Return is a Thing of Amber was a finalist for the Narratively Memoir Prize, and her collection, CAIRO: the undelivered letters won the Center for Book Arts Poetry Chapbook Award.
