The book Ahmed Farid. Another Story was created with the aim of exploring the research journey of Ahmed Farid, through the analysis of the key milestones that allowed the artist to establish himself in a short time as one of the most influential Egyptian painters of contemporary art. Fifteen years after his first solo exhibitions, the volume, entirely curated and coordinated by Professor Diego Faa of Florence, is divided into eight chapters arranged chronologically, retracing the key stages of Farid’s artistic activity: from his early experiments to public exhibitions, from experiences in his home country to projects abroad, from his studies in Florence to his success in international auctions. Born in 1950 in Cairo, Ahmed Farid is a self-taught painter who developed artistically by observing and studying the great Egyptian masters, viewed through the lens of American and European artistic investigations that he had the chance to admire and study with great attention during his many travels throughout his life. It is from the encounter between these two distant cultures that Farid managed to shape an original language, perfectly balancing the influences of Arab heritage and echoes of abstract expressionism. His entry into the world of contemporary art came later in life, but his success was rapid, and he quickly achieved great recognition both in terms of exhibitions and the art market. This work aims to provide a moment of reflection on the artist’s journey and the goals he has reached, through a narrative style directed not only at those accustomed to reading and interpreting contemporary languages but also open to engaging with those who usually find it difficult to open a satisfying dialogue with non-figurative art.
