في هذا الكتاب يتعرف القارىء على شكل آخر من أشكال التاريخ في مصر، وهو شكل لم يكن مخفيًا أو محجوبًا، وإنما كان فقط منزويًا في صفحات الصحف القديمة، وربما لاقى بعض الاهتمام في زمنه، ولكن بمرور الوقت أصبح مجهولًا أو شبه مجهول. سنعود سويًا إلى الجرائد القديمة لنفحصها ونستخرج منها ما كان يشغل الرأي العام في الماضي من أخبار وحوادث وصراعات.

في بعض الفصول نعيد قراءة حوادث غامضة، وأخرى مضحكة، وثالثة غريبة، وكلها حقيقية حدثت بالفعل في أوقات ماضية، ونُشرت في جرائد مختلفة، بعضها انتهى نهاية سعيدة، وأخرى ليست كذلك.

وفي فصول أخرى نتعرف على ألاعيب توفيق الحكيم مع قرائه، وحدة يوسف إدريس في معاركه، وهدوء أحمد بهاء الدين مع أزماته، ومواقف من حياة طه حسين وأيامه، ومفاجآت محمد حسنين هيكل التي لا تنتهي.

وليس الهدف هو البحث عن قصص غريبة أو مثيرة أو طريفة، وإنما الهدف تجميع بعض أجزاء من الصورة التي كان عليها المجتمع المصري في تلك السنوات البعيدة، وبكل ما كان يشغله من قضايا وحوادث وصراعات فكرية وسياسية.

يتناول الكتاب مفهوم “الحكمة” أو “البصيرة” في الفكر المصري القديم، وهي التي من أجلها فَقَدَ حُورَس عينه كما تحكي الأسطورة القديمة؛ مما يجعل المصري القديم أول مَنْ توصل لتلك العلاقة التي تربط بين “البَصَر” و” البَصِيرَة” في التاريخ ويناقش الكتاب من خلال رؤية جديدة عددًا من الأطروحات الفلسفيَّة التي يدور حولها الفكر المصري القديم، من بينها فلسفة الوطن وخاصيَّة المكان وفلسفة العقل وتركيبة النفس البشرية، وأيضًا الضحك الذي كان يمثل للمصري القديم نوعًا من التمرُّد الساخر، وفوق كل هذا فلسفة “مَاعِتْ” التي تعني العدل والاعتدال وصدق القول والفعل، وهي في الحقيقة المحور الرئيسي الذي تدور حوله كل جوانب الفلسفة المصريَّة القديمة.
